GARFIELD COUNTY School District #16

History of the Teacher of the Year program (TOY)
In 2008, GVEF introduced the program to award the excellence of the teachers in Garfield County School District #16. This was a very successful program for many years with the viability of this program ending with Covid-19 and all of the changes that have occurred since then. With this changing atmosphere, we now offer a staff appreciation shin-dig at the end of the school year for all staff and their families. It includes live music, great food and games to say "Thank you" to all staff in the district.

GARFIELD COUNTY School District #16

The Teacher of the Year recognition had to be cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic. Coming back in 2021, we knew that we had to change some things as life had changed and coming together in groups was not something that was a possibility still. Instead, we decided to change the program and make it a recognition of ALL school staff. We asked each school if they would prefer to have a breakfast or lunch brought in for them and gave them a choice of 2 or 3 different food establishments in town. The breakfast or lunch, whichever meal was decided upon, per building was delivered compliments of the Educational Foundation. The staff seemed to really enjoy that and moving forward, instead of singling out any one teacher or staff member, we think showing our appreciation of all staff is a better way to celebrate those who support our students every day. The members of the Educational Foundation are planning a "shindig" for the 2022 school year that will show each teacher and staff that they are all teachers of the year!
